  [S927] Obituary. Esther Hartman Stebner passed away from natural causes on January 11, 2019, in Napa, California. Esther is predeceased by her husband Edwin Stebner and survived by her son, Roger Stebner, her grandson, Jake Stebner, his wife, Diana Stebner, his son Huxley Stebner, and Jake's mother, Tanya Piper, Esther's two nieces, Jackie DeGroot and Idonna Dalstrom, and two nephews, Bill Leidy and Zeno Stebner. Esther was born on November 1, 1921, in Goodrich, North Dakota. The youngest of nine children, she spent her early years on her father's farm in North Dakota before her family headed west to Washington, where she graduated from Toppenish High School. After finishing her business college studies in Olympia, Washington, she became a permanent Civil Service employee and worked as a civilian secretary at McChord Air Force Base in Tacoma, Washington. In 1941, she married Ed and later transferred to Walla Walla Army Air Base in Walla Walla, Washington, where she was employed as secretary to the base commander while Ed earned his bachelor's degree in English Literature at Walla Walla University. Esther and Ed later moved to Sacramento with their son Roger where Esther began her career in the medical field managing doctor's office operations for Dr. Lawrence Winn Sr. and then for Dr. James Swingle for the duration of her decades-long career. She was an extremely loyal and active member of the Carmichael Seventh-day Adventist Church. She was an avid follower of current events and loved to read about and discuss politics and theology. She enjoyed sharing meals, stories, and her magnificent laugh with her many beloved friends in her home and theirs. Esther will be honored at a memorial service on February 16 at 2:00 p.m. in the Carmichael Seventh-day Adventist Church at 4600 Winding Way in Sacramento.
