Michael J. Bednar, age 87, of Erie, passed away Tuesday, October 6th, 2015, at Independence Court. He was born on St. Michael's Day, September 29th, 1928, in Erie, a son of the late John and Stella Loszewski Bednarowicz.
After graduating from Tech School, Michael enlisted in the Army and was stationed in Mannheim, Germany. Upon his return to the States while on the ship, the soldiers were notified that they would now be serving one more year as a result of the Korean Conflict.
Michael was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, a life member of the Men's Council, an Usher and the Mount Carmel retirees. He was retired from the Erie Brewing Company as a driver/salesman and the Uniflow Mfg. Co., where he served on their respective Credit Union Committees. Michael enjoyed working in his vegetable garden, traveling, and had the deft ability to fix anything. Michael was a member of the Siebenbuerger Club, American Legion Post 571, LifeWorks and the North Coast Striders.
He was preceded in death by his sisters, Lilian Zaczyk, Ann Hudacky, Sophie Hudacky, Jennie Bednarowicz, Helen Orlowski, and Frances Trojanowski; and brother, John Bednarowicz.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Ann L. Albert Bednar; daughters, Laurie A. Bednar and Leslie M. Sadler and husband Robert; sons, Michael A. Bednar and Ann C. Mioduszewski and Karl B. Bednar; and granddaughters, Kayla and Katrina Bednar; and a brother, Edward Bednarowicz and his wife Rosalie, all of Erie. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews from Cleveland to North East.
Friends may call at the Brugger Funeral Homes & Crematory, Pine Avenue Branch, 845 East 38th St., Friday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. and may attend services there on Saturday at 9:45 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 10:30 a.m.
Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
