Edwin was born on July 4, 1937 on a farm near Strasburg, the son of Mike & Catherine (Hager) Welk. He was raised and educated in Strasburg. He graduated from St. Benedict's High School in Strasburg. Edwin served in the US Navy for 30 years and was honorably discharged after reaching the rank of Chief Construction Mechanic. Edwin lived in Bismarck where worked at Eide Ford as a salesman. He then moved to Alexandria, VA where he worked as a mechanic. He returned to Strasburg in 2004. He had been a resident of the Strasburg Care Center for the last 3 months. Edwin enjoyed playing cards, traveling, cooking and gardening. He will always be remembered for his friendly, easy going personality, his willingness to help others. He was a member of the Strasburg Lions and Strasburg VFW. The family would like thank Dana & Mark Kramer for their help in caring for Edwin. He is survived by one son, Michael Welk of Henrietta, NY; one daughter and son-in-law, Lisa & Gary Smith of Henrietta, NY; one granddaughter, Schana Smith of Henrietta, NY; two sisters and two brothers-in-law: Evelyn & Larry Schwab of Strasburg, ND and Edna & Jimmy Schwab of Strasburg, ND and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister Diane Meier.Funeral services will be held Friday, October 26, 2007 at St. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Strasburg with the Reverend Leonard Eckroth officiating. Burial will be Friday at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan.Arrangements by Myers Funeral Home. Family Members Parents Mike L.
