Bio: Kathryn "Kay" Gartner, 87, of Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center, Bismarck, died February 22, 2015, at CHI St. Alexius Health, Bismarck. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, February 25, at Bismarck Baptist Church, 2211 Laforest Ave, Bismarck, with Rev. Bryan Hochhalter officiating. Burial will be held at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck. Visitation will be held from 3:00 pm – 8:00 pm Tuesday, February 24, at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck, where family will be receiving visitors from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Kathryn was born on May 24, 1927, at McClusky, ND, the daughter of Ernest and Elizabeth (Ockert) Baron. She grew up on the family farm northwest of McClusky, ND. Kay married Harry Gartner on March 29, 1948, at McClusky, ND. In 1954, Kay and Harry moved to Bismarck, and later worked serving lunches at Northridge Elementary, Bismarck High School, the University of Mary, Provident Life Insurance, and Century High School. Kay enjoyed gardening, cooking, and traveling. She was a member of the Women's Missionary Society, Bismarck Baptist Church, Senior Swing Band, and Red Hats Society. After Kay's and Harry's retirements in 1983, the couple enjoyed traveling; especially their winter stays in Arizona. Kay is survived by her children, Lindell (George) Redington, Ellinwood, KS, and Vonnie Gartner, Bismarck, ND; her grandchildren, Eva (Josh) Bleeker, Manassas, VA, Luke (Rose) Redington, Lafayette, IN, Alana Dudgeon, Mandan, and Alyssa (Blake) Hanson, Bismarck; and her sisters, Violet Montgomery, Bismarck, and Gladys Willits, Fargo. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Gartner; and her siblings, Mary Wahl, Raymond Baron, Grace Hanson, Dwight Baron, and Art Baron.
