Paul Robert Kimmet, 95, of New Riegel, passed away Thursday evening, June 5, 2014, at his home.
He was born January 15, 1919, in New Riegel, to James H. and Agatha (Wagner) Kimmet. He married Bernice “Bunny” Mesnard April 15, 1950, and she preceded him in death July 27, 1985.
Survivors include two daughters, Teresa “Terri” (David) Kauffman of New Riegel and Linda (Dick) Elchert of Kansas; a son, Phil Gitcheff of Tiffin; a sister, Luella E. Wright of Tiffin; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He also was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Alvin Kimmet; and sister, Anna Marie Cole.
Paul was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and served in the U.S. Army Tank Corps. from 1941-1943 during WWII. His dedication to his country continued for many years as he honored those who served by his membership in Seneca County United Veterans Council. He belonged to AMVETS Post 48, VFW Post 2858 and American Legion Post 169, all in Tiffin. One of his proudest moments was being chosen as the Seneca County Veteran of the Year in 2009. Paul was a painter for the Howard Young Co. and later retired from maintenance at Tiffin State Hospital.
His Mass of christian burial will begin at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 11, 2014, at St. Mary Catholic Church, 85 S. Sandusky St., Tiffin, with the Rev. Gary Walters officiating. A rosary will be prayed 20 minutes prior to the Mass. Burial will follow at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery, Tiffin, with military honors being conducted by Seneca County United Veterans Council.
Friends may visit with the family from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, June 10, 2014, at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home & Crematory, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin, OH 44883, (419) 447-2424. A Christian wake service will begin at 3:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to FACT or Bridge Hospice.
