- OBITUARY: Hobert W. DempseyJanuary 17, 2004
Hobert W. "Red" Dempsey, 79, of Victoria, died Thursday, Jan. 15, 2004.
He was born April 26, 1924, in Ansted, W. Va., to the late Roy Lee and Lillian Nunery Dempsey. He was a veteran of WWII, where he was a prisoner of war for six months in Germany. He was missionary in Brazil, Jamaica and Puerto Rico. He was a foreman with Westinghouse Refrigeration, retiring after 15 years of service. He was a member of Parkway Baptist Church.
Survivors: wife, Beatrice Wise Dempsey; daughters, Marilynne Estep of Newark, Ohio and Victoria Palmer of St. Cloud, Fla.; sons, Dr. James Shook of Victoria and Ricky Shook of Jacksonville, Fla.; 12 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be 4-6 p.m. Sunday at Rosewood Funeral Chapels.
Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Parkway Baptist Church, the Rev. Scott Weatherford officiating.
Graveside services with full military honors, under the auspices of Victoria Veterans Council, VFW, CWV, DAV, Vietnam Veterans of America, American Legion, Marine Corps League, the Military Order of the Purple Heart, Crossroads Ex-POWs, Military Order of the World Wars and the Korean War Veterans, will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio. Rosewood Funeral Chapels, Victoria, 361-573-4546.
