- [S927] Obituary.
Dolores E. Mellein is now with God, leaving this life after 89 years on Thursday, July 24, 2014. She was married an amazing 63 and one half years to her beloved husband, Leo.
Dearest of all in her heart was her husband and her marriage. Dolores and Leo, since being high school sweethearts, had the most exceptional marriage, as was commented on by many. As a priest from St. Mary Magdalen parish said, "Leo and Dolores were the most thoroughly married people on the planet." Dolores always would rather be with Leo than be anywhere else; now she is.
Still, everywhere she went, shopping, church, or her own living room to greet installers and repair persons, she enchanted all.
Dolores and Leo loved to travel the United States together. They enjoyed major weeks-long excursions. There was the trip (with children) during the 1950s that included Yellowstone, Glacier National Park, The Grand Tetons, San Francisco, and Big Sur, among other memorable locations. They made extensive trips to Washington DC and the New England States-as well as Hawaii, Alaska, and Mexico City. Altogether they traveled to 49 states.
Dolores was born in Van Nuys, CA. She lived in the San Fernando Valley until 1976, when she and Leo, moved to Camarillo. She has been a resident of Camarillo for 38 years. It was here that she enjoyed one of her favorite pastimes, baking and cake decorating. And she loved to create lavish dinners for the gathering of their clan. On an everyday level, she demonstrated her loving fondness of birds by feeding and watching them. Her favorite bird of all was the owl.
But in her later years, her greatest thrill was doting on her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She even purchased a home in Dallas, OR to be where most of her great-grandchildren lived.
Dolores and Leo shared a rock solid faith, and the Catholic religion helped meld their relationship and marriage. The Rosary was the center of their devotional expression. And in her later years, Dolores became glued to the EWTN network, frequently watching and involved in the televised mass.
Dolores will be lovingly remembered by her children, Douglas, Marie, Dennis, and Donald. She will also be fondly remembered by her six grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and her beloved pet, Mr. Turtle.
The family wishes to thank all our angels, coming to us in the form of neighbors, caregivers, and relatives who have been such an enormous help during this time of need. The pure loving spirit that came from each of you has miraculously appeared just when it was needed.
Recitation of the rosary will be at 7 p.m. Friday, August 1 at the Griffin Family Funeral Chapel located at 1075 E. Daily Drive, Camarillo, CA 93010. The funeral Mass can be attended at 10 a.m. Saturday, August 2 at St. Mary Magdalen Church located at 25 Las Posas Road. (corner of Las Posas & Crestview), Camarillo, CA 93010.
Dolores will be buried in the same burial plot as Leo at the San Fernando Mission Cemetery at 2 pm. For those who can make the trip to the cemetery, they are welcome to join the family on the journey.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations please be made to: OASIS of Camarillo (a program of Catholic Charities), 2532 Ventura Blvd., Camarillo, CA 93010; (805)-987-2083.
