Virginia L. Butts 1928 - 2005
OTTAWA - Virginia Lee Butts, 77, Ottawa and formerly of Humboldt and Chanute, died Saturday, Dec. 3, 2005, at Ransom Memorial Hospital, Ottawa.
She was born July 6, 1928, on the family farm east of Chanute, the daughter of Reinald I. and Christina A. Friederich. She was raised in Chanute, attending St. Patrick Catholic School and graduating from Chanute High School in 1946. She also graduated from Neosho Community College in 1948.
She was a homemaker and served as project leader for the Full-O-Pep 4-H Club. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Humboldt, and the Farmers' Wives and Old Hens Clubs.
On Sept. 14, 1951, she married Elvin A. "Jiggs" Butts. He died April 18, 1992.
Survivors include seven children, Cathy McDonald, Chantilly, Va., Chris Butts, Humboldt, Brent Butts, Chanute, Rita Mayes, Ottawa, Linda Butts, Frontenac, Julie Steitz, Greenwood, Ind., and Marianne Baumchen, Topeka; two sisters, Pauline Brigman, Golden City, Mo., and Frances Seidl, Wichita; a brother, Dale Friederich, Butler City, Mo.; and 14 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by a son, Kenton E. Butts, and five siblings, Ellen Keenan, Sister Aloysia Friederich, Irene McDonald, Raymond Friederich and John Friederich.
Funeral Mass was today, Dec. 6, at St. Joseph Catholic Church led by Fr. Thomas Scaletty. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery.
The rosary was Monday night at the church, following visitation at the funeral home. Memorials to the Alzheimer's Association or Midland Hospice Care may be left with the funeral home.
