Monica F. Himmelspach, 93, Mandan, died Dec. 31, 2003, in a Bismarck care center. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Patrick Schumacher officiating. Burial will be in Mandan Union Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 1 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, where a Catholic Daughters rosary will be said at 4 p.m., and a parish vigil and rosary will be held at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Monica was born Dec. 9, 1910, on a farm in the Crown Butte area, the daughter of Isadore and Cecelia (Stein) Immel. She attended school in rural Morton County.
On Oct. 14, 1930, she married Joseph F. Himmelspach at St. Mary's Church in Yucca. They farmed in southeast Oliver County from 1930 to 1955, on land that was homesteaded by her father-in-law. They then moved to Mandan, where she lived for the past 48 years. Her husband Joseph passed away Feb. 1, 1990.
Monica enjoyed crocheting, reading, doing ceramics, cooking, baking and traveling.
She was a member of the Bismarck Eagles Auxiliary and the Mandan Golden Age Club.
She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Darlene and Raymond Kautzman, Mandan, and Deloris and Ted Nordaby, Bothell, Wash.; three sons and four daughters-in-law, Frank and Katherine Himmelspach, Mesa Ariz., Clem and Leona Himmelspach, Woodinville, Wash., Vangie Himmelspach, Bismarck, and James and Betty Himmelspach, Raymond, Minn.; 22 grandchidren; 42 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Maggie Emil, Newcastle, Wyo., and Sylvia Immel, Portland, Ore.; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph; one son, Thomas; her parents; and 11 brothers and sisters.
Memorials may be given to Church of St. Joseph Trust Fund or a charity of the donor's choice.
