Helen B. Klein, 86, West Fargo, ND, formerly of Leeds, ND, passed away Friday, March 24, 2017, at Sanford Palliative Care in Fargo.
Helen B. Klein was born July 9, 1930, at Rugby, ND, the daughter of Valentine and Rosa (Scheile) Schaan. She was raised in Balta, ND, graduating from the Balta High School in 1948. Helen and Leo Klein were married October 4, 1948, in a double wedding ceremony with her brother, John and Theresa Schaan at Balta, ND. The couple farmed north of Balta until moving to Leeds, ND in January of 1962. In Leeds, they owned and operated Klein’s Bar and Bowling Alley, custom combining and later owned the Leeds Locker Plant. Helen and Leo then began over the road trucking, each with their own rig. Leo passed away February 13, 2001. Helen remained in Leeds until moving to Fargo in June of 2005. In the fall of 2013, she moved to Sheyenne Crossings Assisted Living in West Fargo.
Helen was active at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church and Altar Society in Leeds and was currently a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in West Fargo. She enjoyed dancing with Leo, country music, cards, puzzles, cooking, flower gardening and trips to the casino. Above all, Helen loved all of the time spent at family gatherings.
Surviving are her children: Cheryl (Bob) Baumgarten of West Fargo, Jeff (Carol) Klein of Belle Plaine, MN, Doreen (Cullen) Johnson of West Fargo, Pam Klein Gorby of Fargo, Denise (Jeff) Holm of West Fargo, Leon (Sharon) Klein of Mapleton, ND and Lisa (Kelly) Eggl of Minot, ND; 17 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; surviving siblings: Marty Schlichenmayer of Las Vegas, NV, Christine Bertsch of Fargo and Bernie (John) Duchscher of Rugby; numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers: Frank, Carl, John & Leo Schaan; sisters: Julia Senger and Dorothy Morrissey.
Visitation from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Thursday, March 30, 2017, followed by a Vigil Service at 5:30 p.m. at the West Funeral Home in West Fargo.
Mass of Christian Burial 11 a.m. Friday, March 31, 2017, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in West Fargo.
Burial St. Leo’s Catholic Cemetery in Casselton.
