Jean M. Newhart , 71 of the 1100 block of Hazel Ave., died Sunday, Sept. 1, 2002 in a local hospital.
She was a native of Chesapeake and was the wife of Lenny Newhart for 48 years.
Besides her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Debbie Jean Newhart of Virginia Beach, VA; a son , Paul Newhart and his wife Mary Joanna of Chesapeake, VA; a brother, George M. Wallace and friend, Norma of Chesapeake, VA; four nephews, John M. Wallace and his wife Susan, Robbie Wallace and his son, Chris , Timmy Wallace and his wife Dianne and Gary Wayne Wallace and his son, Robert; two nieces, Ellen Rein and her husband Jim and Terrie Leigh Sullivan and many other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by a brother, Franklin Wallace.
She was a member of Indian River Baptist Church, a graduate of Portlock High School, Class of 1948, worked for Colonial Stores for 15 years, and was a receptionist for Hillman Rug Co. and Norfolk Yacht and Country Club and worked for Norfolk Redevelopment and Housing Authority as a switchboard operator for 10 years, then worked for the Virginian-Pilot Newspaper as a switchboard operator from which she retired in 1998 after 16 years of service. She loved to travel all over the world and loved to round dance with Eric and Judy Jaworski which she did for over 20 years. She was a member of the Friday Round Dance Club and loved her cat Simba.
A funeral service will be conducted in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Indian River Chapel Wednesday at 11 a.m. by the Rev. Bob Jordan . Burial will be in Rosewood Memorial Park. The family will be at the funeral home Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. to greet friends. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Stanley Jennings Center, 844 N. Battlefield Blvd., Chesapeake, VA, 23323.
