William N. "Bill" Glaser, 67, Mandan, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer with his loving family by his side on Feb. 16, 2011, at Medcenter One, Bismarck. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 18, at Spirit of Life Catholic Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Chad Gion officiating. Burial will be in Mandan Union Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 7 p.m. today, with a rosary/vigil service beginning at 7 p.m., at Perry Funeral Home, Mandan. Visitation continues one hour prior to the service at the church.
Bill was born in Bismarck on Jan. 30, 1944, to Nicholas and Eva (Zentner) Glaser. He attended St. Mary's Grade School through the eighth grade and earned his High School Equivalency Diploma from Montana State College. While working as a bellhop and desk clerk at the Prince Hotel in Bismarck, he met his wife of 48 years, Phyllis Greff. Together, they had four sons.
Bill moved his family to Dickinson in 1966, to work for Diamond Equipment Inc. In 1969, they came back to Mandan and he worked for various businesses. In 1972, Bill joined the Painter's Union and began his career in the construction of power plants. He joined the Boilermaker's Union in 1977, and continued working for them until his retirement in 2007. Bill's job required him to work in several states where he earned the nickname "Nodak Mack," of which he was very proud.
Bill was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, uncle and friend. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, and was best known for his humor. He was often the life of the party, enjoyed making people laugh, and could always be counted on to lend a helping hand. Bill loved classic cars and never tired of going to the Thursday Night Cruise Night at Burger King in Mandan, as well as other classic car shows. Bill and his wife also enjoyed going to Prairie Knights Casino. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis; four sons, Allen, Bismarck, Bruce and Curt, both of San Diego, and Ross, Mandan; four grandchildren, Justin Glaser, Grand Forks, Brandon and Brittany Glaser, Bismarck, and Cole Glaser, Mandan; four sisters, Barbara Anderson, Breckenridge, Minn., Angie (Richard) Lopez, Bakersfield, Calif., Darlene Glaser, Bismarck, and Marlys (Michael) Bowden, Bismarck; and four brothers, Casper (Leona) Glaser, Bismarck, Don Glaser, Bismarck, Larry (Sheila) Glaser, Henderson, Nev., and Marvin (Mary) Glaser, Apollo Beach, Fla.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Mike and Veronica Greff; one brother, George Glaser; and three brothers-in-law, Marvin Anderson, Eugene Greff and Dan Jensen.
