Magdalen Emma Januscheitis
Magdalen Emma Januscheitis died 11/5/09. She was born on 1/14/18 in St. Joseph, North Dakota to Elizabeth Wetzstein and George Zentner. She was preceded in death by husband John Januscheitis and son Charles Duane Januscheitis. She is survived by her children and 18 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.
Our loving Mom, Mother-in-law, & Grandma Maggie Januscheitis, was welcomed to Heaven to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus and her loving husband John of 46 years after 91 years of life. She and Dad, her only sweetheart, raised 8 children through the hardest of times. Her home and family were her life and she took great pride in them. She used to bake 10 loaves of bread and cinnamon rolls twice a week on an old wood stove. Not being a car driver, she had to depend on kind neighbors when the kids needed emergency care. She was very clean and kept a meticulous house and always made sure the 8 kids were in clean, ironed clothes every day, washed their hands, and lined up cute for church every Sunday a.m. She had a wonderful German/Russian heritage (Germans from Russia) and cooked delicious ethnic foods that were not measured or written down, we just had to watch her and learn, such as cream noodles, dough noodles, elephant ears, bean soup, and groomvera neetza knepla (potato and dumpling soup) and other dishes from "the old country". She canned the best kosher dill pickles and lots of fruit every summer. In her childhood she grew up on a farm in North Dakota, working very hard, and remembered having a decorated sagebrush as a Christmas tree one Christmas. As a young adult she worked as a cook's assistant at a Catholic hospital in North Dakota, helping the nuns. In recent years she was active in the "Silver Set" in Selah and sang in a trio. She enjoyed playing pinochle and Skipbo. Mom had strong faith in God and attended the Catholic church regularly as long as she was physically able. She was loving, kind, affectionate and able to give criticism and praise when needed, especially at family gatherings and holidays. We will miss her very much.
