Obituary
Herbert William Christenberry, Jr. passed away on Wednesday June 11,2014 following a short illness at the age of 84. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Ann Jacobs Christenberry, and children Herbert "Chris" W, III, Leon Wayne, Andrew "Drew," Cynthia "Cindy," and son-in-law Gerald "Jerry" Moll, along with daughter-in-law Lisa B. Christenberry Maestri. He was preceded in death by his parents Judge Herbert W. Christenberry and Anna Borne Christenberry and son, Edward Clay. Herbert William Christenberry, Jr. passed away on Wednesday June 11,2014 following a short illness at the age of 84.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Ann Jacobs Christenberry, and children Herbert "Chris" W, III, Leon Wayne, Andrew "Drew," Cynthia "Cindy," and son-in-law Gerald "Jerry" Moll, along with daughter-in-law Lisa B. Christenberry Maestri. He was preceded in death by his parents Judge Herbert W. Christenberry and Anna Borne Christenberry and son, Edward Clay. He is also survived by his sister, Carolyn Christenberry Walsh of Baton Rouge, La. and cousin Earl Christenberry. He was the proud grandfather of Corey Daniel Moll (married to Hattie Moll), Casey William Moll, and Madeline Elizabeth Christenberry. He was also a proud Uncle to a host of nieces and nephews.
A graduate of Jesuit High School in 1948, he attended St. Edward's University in Austin, Texas before enlisting in the Coast Guard. After completing his enlistment he entered Loyola University New Orleans College of Law and graduated in 1957. Throughout his life Herbert continued to strongly support and champion each alma mater.
He practiced law until the end and developed an outstanding and memorable legal career. He served as attorney for the Orleans Parish Levee Board and The New Orleans Aviation Board. In 1965 Herbert was the Vice Chairman of the Battle of New Orleans Sesquicentennial Commission.
He gave back to his community as a leader with Boy Scouts Troop 100, the Holy Name Society of St. Pius X Parish, and numerous other organizations. He was awarded the Order of St. Louis by the Archdiocese of New Orleans.
Friends and relatives are invited to visit on Sunday June 15, 2014 between 6:00p.m and 8:00p.m at Leitz Eagan Funeral Home on Veterans Blvd. in Metairie, Louisiana, and on Monday June 16, 2014 from 9:30 a.m to Noon at St. Pius X Church 6600 Spanish Fort Blvd.
A Mass will be celebrated at Noon. Burial service will follow at Metairie Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers donations to Jesuit High School, Mount Carmel Academy, Loyola University or St. Pius X Church are appreciated.
