Raymond Edward "Ed" Bradle, 90, formerly of Washington, passed away at 11 p.m. Wednesday (Sept. 30, 2009) at Snyder Village in Metamora.
Ed was born Dec. 12, 1918, in East Lynn, son of Alonzo and Blanche Meyer Bradle. His wife of over 65 years, Mary Jean Norris Bradle, survives. They were married Oct. 23, 1943, in Quantico, Va.
He was preceded in death by three sisters and two brothers.
Ed was his grandkids' greatest fan in whatever activity they participated in.
Ed had worked for Caterpillar in East Peoria in the engineering and research areas, retiring after working more than 41 years for Caterpillar.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Marine Corps for four years and attaining the rank of captain. Ed attended the Missouri School of Mines in Rolla, Mo.
He was quite active in sports in Washington and was elected to the Illinois Basketball Coaches Hall of Fame as a friend of basketball. He had coached youth sports for many years and enjoyed bowling, participating in several leagues. Ed also had served six years on the Washington Community High School board.
He was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Washington.
