Sister Anna Marie Willig, RGS, 99; Rochester native Catholic Courier | Sun, June 27, 2010 Category: Obituaries Sister of the Good Shepherd Anna Marie Willig (formerly Sister Mary of the Sacred Heart) died May 7, 2010, in Seoul, South Korea. She was 99. Sister Willig grew up in Rochester and attended Our Lady of Perpetual Help School and Rochester Business Institute. She entered the congregation in 1929 at the Good Shepherd Novitiate in Peekskill, N.Y. From 1933-51, she worked as an apostolate in Shanghai, China, where she helped found the Good Shepherd Home. After the communist invasion of China in 1951 she moved to Hong Kong, where she served as superior from 1951-61. The following year she supervised a construction project in Manila, Philippines. Beginning in 1962 she was assigned as superior in Los Angeles. In 1966 Sister Willig began her mission work in Korea, where she established a technical school and a dormitory. In 1973 she worked with Amerasian mothers and children in the Seoul community until she eventually became bedridden. She is survived by her nephew and her sisters in the congregation.
