Norma Job
Norma Edna Job, of Spearfish, passed away peacefully at her home following a brief illness. With a smile on her face, she went to be with Jesus on Sunday, July 10, 2016. She had an enviable zest for life and lived it joyfully with family and friends for all of her 89 ½ years.
Norma was born on December 14, 1926 in Eureka, SD. She spent her childhood on a farm in McPherson County, South Dakota before graduating from Eureka High School in 1944. From there she went on to earn a teaching certificate from Northern State College and taught country school for two years. While teaching she met her future husband Marvin H. Job. They married on November 5, 1948 and began farming in the area. In 1954 Marvin, Norma and their three children moved to Deadwood, SD, and shortly thereafter to Lead where Marvin worked at the Homestake Gold Mine until his retirement. In 1990 Marvin and Norma settled in Spearfish to enjoy their golden years.
Norma pursued many interests that kept her active and on the go. She had a passion for quilting and spent innumerable hours working on quilting projects at home and at the church. Norma's dedication to quilting earned her the 2006 President's Volunteer Service Award! She was an involved and devoted member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Spearfish.
Norma will be dearly missed by the surviving members of her family who are daughters, Carol Ann Job of Phoenix, AZ, Sheila (Job) Kinghorn and her husband Ken of Spearfish, son, Steve Job and his wife Donna (Ott) of Lead and their three children, Joshua Job of San Francisco, CA, Dr. Jenessa K. Job of New York City, NY and JeNae Job of Lead.
Norma is also survived by her brothers, Allan Gab of Bowdle, SD and Victor (Lila) Gab of Eureka, SD, her sisters, Lenore (Gab) Charell of Pacific Palisades, CA, Lillian (Gab) Bareither and her husband Karl of Avila Beach, CA, and special friend Pam Englund of Spearfish. Preceding her in death were her husband, Marvin in 2008, her sister, Ramona Gab in 1985 and her parents.
Norma’s fondest wish is that those left behind pursue their passions and live life to the fullest just as she did.
Visitation will be from 4-6 PM on Thursday, July 14, 2016 at Fidler-Isburg Funeral Chapel in Spearfish. Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM on Friday, July 15 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Spearfish. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established to benefit Our Savior’s Quilters, Hospice of the Northern Hills and MS Foundation.
Arrangements are under the care of Fidler-Isburg Funeral Chapels and Crematory Service of Spearfish. Online condolences may be written at www.fidler-isburgfuneralchapels.com
