Bio: Dr. Rodney Charles Dukart (Retired Colonel USAF), 80, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 23, 2018. He was born in Richardson, ND to Dr. Christopher and Grace Dukart. With his family he moved to Dickinson, ND where he attended Dickinson High School. Upon graduating he studied pre-dental at St. Mary's University in Winona, MN. He continued his education at Marquette Dental School earning his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree in June, 1963. Rod then joined the United States Air Force and was commisioned as a 1st Lieutenant. Early in his Air Force career he completed training to become an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon. He enjoyed a fulfilling career practicing dental surgery and retired as a full Colonel after 21 years of service. During his military career he was honored and awarded the Air Force Commendation Medal and the Meritorious Service Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters. After retiring from military service Rod opened an Oral Surgery practice in Newport News ,Va. Upon retirement from private practice he continued to serve his community for 10 years as a volunteer surgeon at two free clinics in Kilmarnock and Williamsburg. Rod and Ginny resided in Yorktown for 30 years before moving to Richmond to be closer to family. Rod is survived by a loving and devoted wife of 57 years, Virginia "Ginny" Dukart, two adoring daughters, Michelle (Steve) St. Louis, Fairfax and Laura (Rick) Green, Richmond, two beautiful granddaughters, Quinn and Shelby St. Louis and one grandson, Connor Green. Besides his wife and children Rod also leaves two brothers Bill (Janice) and David (Deborah) as well as nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Aileen Bouffard. Rod loved being outdoors be it in the mountains or on his dock! He was happy outside getting dirty! He was an avid hunter and fisherman, hunting from North Dakota to South Africa and fishing wherever there was water. Then there was his garden, his vegetable garden fed his entire neighborhood all summer! Rodney was truly loved by all who knew him and for good reason; he was a true friend, caregiver and would do anything within his power for anyone in need. He served his country, his community and his family. He will be deeply missed. A Memorial service will be held at 11 AM on Wednesday, July 11, 2018 at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, Yorktown, VA with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association (alz.org)
