Birth: Apr. 7, 1917 Death: Dec. 24, 1982 From Oliver County 1885-1985; Pages 982 - 983: George (Fritz) Weiss was born in the Glen Ullin area to George and Rosa (Meuchel) Weiss. He had 11 brothers and sisters. He lived in attended schools in the Glen Ullin-Bluegrass area. About 1934 when he came to Center and worked for his brother-in-law, Constance and Rose Mosbrucker for a few years, he started to work in an underground coal mine west of Center with Mike Thiel which they operated until about 1944 when a fire started from combustion and the mine was forced to close. Fritz married Leocadia "Lakey" Hoffman on November 9, 1943. Lakey was the daughter of Peter and Josephine (Ferderer) Hoffman. She attended school in the Center area. She has six brothers and sisters. Fritz worked around the Center area until 1945 when they moved to the Gaines Ranch at Sanger where he worked for two years. They came back Center where he started to mine coal again. In 1951, they started to farm northwest of Center and in 1955 they moved to the Hoffman home place where Lakey grew up. A few years later they purchased the farm. Fritz worked on construction at the power plants around Center, Stanton, and Beulah area for about 18 years. Fritz passed away on December 24, 1982 at the age of 65. Fritz and Lakey had five children. Kenneth is married to Carol Zahn, daughter of Dorothy and the late Walter Zahn of Beulah. They have three children: Brian, Rhonda, and Bradley. They live in Beulah, where Kenneth works at the Coyote Power Plant. Thomas resides in Center and is employed at the Baukol-Noonan Mining Company. Carol is married to Michael Lantis, son of Robert and Marcy Lantis of Terry, Montana. They live South of Terry where they operated a sawmill with other members of the Lantis family. They have three children: Ty, Christina, and Kimberly. Kathleen is married to Leland (Marty) Gullickson, son of Elmer and Lucille Gullickson of Center. They live on the Weiss family farm, where he is engaged in farming with his father. They have two daughters: Nicole, and Amber. Daniel lived at home and worked construction at the power plants in the area up until the time of his death in 1980. All the Weiss children graduated from the Center High School. Lakey is a member of St. Martin's Catholic Church and resides in Center.
