Obituary for Bertha Brenner Funeral services for Bertha Brenner, 97, of Aberdeen, SD, will be 10:00am, Friday, July 14, 2017, at Faith United Methodist Church, with Pastor Jack Erickson officiating. Burial at Ellendale City Cemetery, Ellendale, ND. Bertha died Saturday, July 8, 2017 at Bethesda Home of Aberdeen. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements by Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 South Main Street. Bertha Betsch was born August 10, 1919, at Ashley, ND, to Jacob and Christina (Schilling) Betsch. She attended rural school near Ashley, ND. After her education, she worked on the family farm until her marriage to Henry Schock on April 10, 1940, at Ashley, ND. They farmed south of Jamestown until 1950, when they moved to Aberdeen. In 1964, they moved to California. Henry died December 8, 1970. Bertha continued to live in California. In 1965, she began working at Newfields Drapery Shop until her retirement at age 62. On July 26, 1975, Bertha married Emil Brenner at Lodi, CA. He died September 19, 1997. In April of 1998, she returned to Aberdeen, where she has lived since. Bertha was an active member of Faith United Methodist Church where she served with the Faith United Methodist Women. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed cooking for her nieces and nephews. Some of their favorite dishes were her homemade chicken noodle soup and Kuchen. Grateful for having shared Bertha’s life are her nephews and nieces. Preceding Bertha in death are her husbands, Henry Schock and Emil Brenner; parents, Jacob and Christina Betsch; six brothers and three sisters.
