Palmer resident Mr. Duane L. Goodrich, 71, died of injuries suffered in an accident on his property July 20, 2003. A public memorial service was at the Elks Club on Finger Lake, 2600 Barry's Resort Road in Wasilla. Kenneth Hughes officiated.
Mr. Goodrich was born May 24, 1932, in Kelso, Wash. He moved to Alaska in 1940 and graduated from Palmer High School in 1951. He joined the U.S. Army in 1952. He served in the Korean War and was honorably discharged with the rank of corporal in 1954. Mr. Goodrich owned and operated Palmer Machinery from 1948 until 1989, when he retired at age 62. His interests included hunting, fishing and many outdoor activities. His family said, "He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and had many special friends."
Mr. Goodrich is survived by his wife of 41 years, Elinor; sons, Mark and Monte of Palmer; daughter, Kathryn of Athena, Ore., and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to Alaska Outdoor Council, c/o Eddie Grasser. Arrangements are with Valley Funeral Home and Crematory in Wasilla.
