Birth: Jun. 11, 1898 Bartonville Peoria County Illinois, USA Death: Nov. 30, 1992 Danville Vermilion County Illinois, USA EAST PEORIA -- Christian J. Straesser, 94, formerly of East Peoria, died at 2:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 30, 1992, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Danville. Born June 11, 1898, in Bartonville to William and Elizabeth Powell Straesser, he married Mary Brown in 1919 in Peoria. She died July 20, 1962, in Cairo, Ill. He also was preceded in death by three brothers. Surviving are two sons, Chris R. of East Peoria and Hubert L. of Redlands, Calif.; one daughter, Mrs. Warren (Wanda) Slonneger of Peoria; seven grandchildren; 14 great- grandchildren; four great- great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. Kathryn Maxfield of Peoria. He retired from the East Peoria Caterpillar Inc. plant in 1962. A World War I Army veteran, he served in France. He was a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 814 in Peoria. Graveside services with burial of ashes will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Parkview Cemetery in Peoria where military rites will be accorded.
