Emily Helbling, 99, Bismarck, ND formerly of Mandan, ND died May 17, 2012 at Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center in Bismarck.
Services will be held at 12:30 pm on Monday, May 21 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Mandan, ND with burial at the Mandan Union Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Sunday, May 20, 2012 from 4:00-7:00 pm at Weigel Funeral Home, with Parish Rosary/Vigil beginning at 5:00 pm. There will be no visitation at the church.
Emily was born on January 2, 1913 to John and Ida (Messer) Friesz, she was raised on a family farm near Fallon, ND. She married Martin Olheiser in November of 1932. They moved to Glen Ullin, ND in 1933. In their union a son John and a daughter Florence were born. Martin died in November 1940. Emily worked at the Farmers Union Co-Op Store and Midway Hotel and Café. She later moved to Mandan in 1950 and was employed at the JC Penny Store for 12 years. She married Peter Helbling on October 24, 1959. They then moved to Billings, MT in 1963 when Peter was transferred while he was working on the railroad. After Peter retired in 1979 they then moved back to Mandan. Peter died October 28, 1996. She was a very good hostess to whoever stopped by for a visit and always had baked goodies on hand to serve her guest. Emily enjoyed visiting with her children and grandchildren; she enjoyed fishing with her husband, Pete, along the Yellowstone River near Billings and also the Missouri River in Bismarck/Mandan. Gardening was also important to Emily as she raised a big vegetable garden by the river, donating her excess produce to Liberty Heights.
Emily will be deeply missed by her son, John Olheiser and daughter Florence Adams both of Mandan; eight grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, seven great great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Emily was preceded in death by her parents, her husband's Martin Olheiser and Peter Helbling; her brothers Liborous Friesz and Valentine Friesz; her sisters, Sister Irmina, OSB, Magdaline Beckler and Frances Schaner; her son-in-law Bernie Adams and a great great-granddaughter Meckenzy and a great great-grandson Allen.
