Magdalena Beckler, 90, died May 26, 2002, in a Mandan nursing home. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Patrick Schumacher officiating. Burial will be in Mandan Union Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from noon to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, where a parish rosary and parish vigil will be held at 7 p.m.
Magdalena was born Sept. 16, 1911, north of Fallon on the family homestead, the daughter of John and Ida (Messer) Friesz. She grew up in Fallon and attended Fallon Boarding School. She married Michael Beckler Jr. on Oct. 22, 1930, in Fallon. She was employed at George's Bakery in Mandan, and later took a nurses' aide training course at Bismarck Junior College. Upon completion of the course, she went to work at St. Alexius for 13 years until her retirement.
Magdalena did volunteer work at the Senior Center in Mandan. She enjoyed playing bingo and took great pride in having her family around her. She will be remembered for her grace and sweet disposition and the love of people and life that stayed with her until the end.
She was a member of St. Joseph's Church, the Altar Society and the Eagles Club.
She is survived and will be deeply missed by her four daughters and one son-in-law, Theresa Ressler, Louise Markel, Dorothy Berger and Jean and Allen Braun, all of Mandan; three sons and daughters-in-law, Henry and Jackie and Dean and Pam, all of Mandan, and Mike and Pat, Las Cruces, N.M.; 20 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Emma Helbling, Mandan.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Michael; one son, Andrew; one great-grandson, Jaydon Hoebien; two sisters, Frances Schaner and Sister Irmina, O.S.B.; and two brothers, Val and Lipp Friesz.
