Leon Axt 79 of Goodrich died Tuesday, November 23, 2010 at the Medcenter One Hospital of Bismarck.
Funeral services will be held at the Assembly of God Church in McClusky on Saturday November 27, 2010 at 2:00 p.m.
Visitation will be at Hertz Funeral Home of McClusky on Friday November 26 from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Burial will be in the Westheim Cemetery rural McClusky.
Leon was born on February 8, 1931 on the family farm near McClusky. He was the son of John C. and Paulina (Faul) Axt. Leon grew up and attended rural school near McClusky. He also attended high school in McClusky. Leon married Doris Leona Melom on June 14, 1953 at McClusky. They lived and farmed in Sheridan County. They retired from farming in 1997 and moved into Goodrich. Leon also worked at livestock sales barns in Harvey and Carrington. Leon was an avid supporter of the McClusky Chapter Future Farmers of America and was recognized with its Honorary Chapter Farmer award. His hobbies included fishing, bird watching and playing cards. He played and umpired softball and baseball and enjoyed all sports. He made his grandchildren the happy recipients of rebuilt sleds and wagons. He kept alive family traditions such as making jerky and sausage. He was also called upon by friends and family for his expertise or assistance covering a wide range of subjects.
Leon is survived by his wife, Doris of Goodrich; sons, Gary of Goodrich, Todd (Crissy Geloff) of Bismarck; daughters, Leona (Richard) Lochthowe of Minot, Patricia (Frank) Ryan of Sequim, WA, Gail (Bryan) Murphy of Sharpsburg, Georgia, Faye Axt of Harvey, ND, Dora (John) Ofsthun of Granville, ND, Holly (Terry) Roubal of McClusky; 18 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Pearl Perry of Forest Lake, MN, Edna Arvidson of Bismarck, Alvina Geiger of Tacoma, WA; and his dog, Ralph. Leon was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Alvin and William; grandchild, Gloria Murphy.
