Mr. Johnnie John Hertz, 84, passed away peacefully at his home on August 19, 2001. He was born on March 9, 1917 in Glen Ullin, North Dakota. Johnnie was a dedicated Catholic; a member and deacon at St. John Neumann Church.
Johnnie was able to complete 8th grade, at which time, he devoted his time to helping his father on the farm. In 1943, he joined the U.S. Army and was stationed in Italy. He was a private 1st class belonging to the Medical Detachment 126th Battalion, during World War 2. He won numerous medals and started a lifelong career of driving trucks. He moved to Montana where he worked for Burlington Northern for 30 years. He belonged to Teamsters, The Elks, and Eagles.
He met Rosemary in 1965. they married in 1977. They resided in Great Falls, Montana until 1982, when they moved to Yuma and he continued his truck driving career with Avis Rental and then RV World .
He is survived by wife Rosemary, his sisters Rose Walth of Tacoma, Wa. and Barbara Barry of Laguna Niguel, CA and brother Jake Hertz of Olympic, Wa. He is also survived by 6 stepchildren, numerous grandchildren and great granddaughter. He was a gentleman?s gentleman who enjoyed the open road and touched a lot of lives with his smile, kindness and generosity. Roll on Highway.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday at Sunset Vista Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday at St. John Neumann Church. Internment will follow at Sunset Vista Cemetery. Arrangements by Sunset Vista Funeral Home, Cemetery and Crematory.
