Funeral Services for Ray Kenneth Landvater will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 14, 2016, in the chapel of John Kramer & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Brad Webb officiating. Interment will follow in Alexandria Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Friday, May 13, 2016, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.; and will resume on Saturday, from 8:30 a.m. until time of service.
Ray Kenneth Landvater, 87 of Pineville, passed away on May 11, 2016, at Grace Home of Alexandria.
He is preceded in death by his wife Gail Miller Landvater, his parents, Charles and Catherine Ensminger Landvater; and one brother, Harry E. Landvater.
Ray retired after a combination of 37 years, and 4 months of service in the United States Air Force, United States Air Force Reserves, and the Louisiana National Guard Service. He enlisted in the Air Force from December, 1951 till December 1955; and the Air Force Reserves, from December 1955 to September 1958; and in 1958 was transferred to the National Guard until retirement on February 28, 1989.
Throughout his years of service he received numerous awards including: National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Armed Force Reserve Medal with 3 oak leaf clusters, Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal with 5 oak leaf clusters, Army Service Ribbon, Noncommissioned Officers Professional Development Ribbon, with # 4 Louisiana General Excellence Medal, with 1 silver and bronze fleur de lis, Louisiana Emergency Service Medal, and the Louisiana Longevity Medal, with 1 silver and bronze fleur de lis.
Ray attended Quarter Master Supply School, Quarter Master Supply Course, Senior Noncommissioned Officer Courses and many other courses at Ft. Lee, Virginia and Camp Beauregard, LA.
He was employed at the Storage and Distribution Branch, United States Property and Fiscal Office for Louisiana at Camp Beaugard, LA. Ray was under civil service from September 1959 until he semi-retired on May 1, 1987, and continued work in the warehouse under military orders until he officially retired.
Ray also worked as a building engineer at the Trinity United Methodist Church for 7 years; and then worked for Wal-Mart for 5 years.
He was a life member of both the V.F.W. Post 8852, and the American Legion Post #3. Ray was also a member of the Woodmen of the World Lodge #1163, and a reserve deputy for the Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office. He enjoyed cooking for the Wednesday night suppers at the Baptist Temple Church; and for his family. His greatest enjoyment was spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Those left to cherish his memory include his sons, Michael P McKey (Charlotte) of West Monroe, and Patrick L. McKey (Becky) of Pineville; step-daughter, Grace E. Bielkiewicz (Sonny) of Baton Rouge; and step-son, Joseph H. McKey (Beverly) of Alexandria; his grandchildren, Mary Janyce Rawls, Kathryn Lynn Peloquin- McKey, John Paul McKey, James Patrick McKey, Kimberly Ann Blalock, Craig Joseph Beilkiewicz, Wendy Elizabeth Kemp, Christopher Mark Bielkiewicz, Scott Andrew Bielkiewicz and Kelly Marie Carpenter; and numerous great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Ray also leaves behind his wife’s children, Chuck Miller (Erin) of Cummings, GA; and Debbie M. Michiels (Steve) of Elmer, LA; grandchildren, Ashley Miller, Avery Miller, Chase Miller, William Miller, Kourtney Cartledge, and Joshua Michiels; and numerous great grandchildren.
