NAPOLEON — Services for Marvin Grenz, Napoleon, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 31, at Ebenezer United Methodist Church, Streeter. Burial will be at the Napoleon City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 1 to 7 p.m. today with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Napoleon.
Marvin, son of Jacob and Lucy (Freier) Grenz, was born April 21, 1931, in a farm house near Napoleon. He attended Streeter High School and graduated in 1949. He received a teaching certificate from Valley City State College and later attended Coyne Electrical School in Chicago. After graduation, Marvin returned to the family farm and helped his parents. On Sept. 6, 1953, Marvin married Florence Schlecht in Streeter, where they continued to farm and ranch for 61 years.
His pride and joy were his family and farming, especially growing and combining his corn. He was a member of the United Methodist Church and various agricultural organizations. Marvin frequently attended agricultural trade shows, in particular Big Iron. He also enjoyed Western movies and music featuring Roy Rogers and Gene Autry. He was a cowboy at heart. He had a sweet tooth with a special love for Russell Stover. Marvin will be fondly remembered by family and friends for his distinctive laugh.
Marvin died July 26, 2014, in a farm accident on the family farm. He was 83 years old.
Marvin is survived by his wife, Florence, Napoleon; six children, Janell (Roger) Bachman, Little McDonald Lake, Minn., Jeff Grenz, Napoleon, Kevin (Helen) Grenz, Jamestown, Sandra (Dennis) Heck, Mandan, Valerie Grenz, Grafton, and Lana (Korey) Kirschenmann, Fargo; nine grandchildren, Timothy and James Bachman, Kristen Moos, Bryan Grenz, Alan, John and David Grenz, and Hannah and Trinity Kirschenmann; nine great-grandchildren; and one aunt, Violet Grenz, Bismarck.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jacob and Lucy; and a brother, Alan.
