Ralph S. Meidinger
The Funeral Service for Ralph Stanley Meidinger, age 87 of Elgin, will be held at 10:30 am on Monday, August 8, 2016 at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Elgin. Pastor Brian Knutson and Pastor John Amundson will officiate with burial in the Peace Lutheran Cemetery at Heil.
Special music will be provided by Annette Roth, organist and Benjamin & Joseph Roth and Halle Rivinius, soloists.
Serving as casketbearers are Matthew Bentz, Casey Hochhalter, Derek Vujnovich, Michael, and Shawn Dachtler, Eric Bachmeier, Blake, Damian, and Brett Ulrich, and Saul Maier. Serving as Honorary Casketbearers are Aimee Bachmeier, Stacey Thompson, and Rhiannon Rosen.
RALPH S. MEIDINGER was born June 20, 1929 at Elgin, ND to Jacob and Margaret (Rieker) Meidinger. He was baptized August 11, 1929 and confirmed June 17, 1945 at Peace Lutheran Church in Heil, ND. Ralph was raised on the family farm south of Heil. He only spoke the German language and had to learn English when he started school in Heil. Following his schooling, he worked at the Heil elevator for a few years and for his dad on the farm.
Ralph was united in marriage to Agnes Fuchs on October 22, 1950 at Zion Lutheran Church in Elgin. Ralph and Agnes owned and operated Meidinger Recreation in Elgin. In 1962, they purchased the farm from his parents and they moved there. Together, they raised grain, cattle and operated a dairy and feedlot.
Following his retirement, the Meidingers continued to live on the farm. They moved into Elgin in 2010 where they continued to spend their retirement years together. Ralph passed away from this life early Tuesday morning August 2, 2016 at the Jacobson Memorial Hospital in Elgin.
He was a member of the Elgin Lions Club, Germans from Russia, served on the Elm Township Board and election board. In his earlier years, he loved playing baseball and softball for the Heil and Elgin teams. He enjoyed golfing and bowling he bowled a 300 game in a tournament, he loved the game of aggravation especially when he was winning.
Ralph was a member of Zion Lutheran Church where he served on the church council and sang in the choir. He loved music, loved to sing, and loved to dance, especially polkas and waltzes. Ralph and Agnes loved to travel they took many bus tours and trips in the Rath Motor Home visiting most of the states. He was an avid Minnesota Twins baseball fan and Minnesota Vikings football team. Most of all he loved his family, and loved spending time with the grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Keeping him in their fondest memories are his wife, Agnes, 4 daughters and sons-in-law, Ronae and Rick Hochhalter, Elgin, ND; Karen and Chuck Vujnovich, Mesa, AZ, Robin and Darvin Bentz, Elgin, ND: Terry and Jeffrey Dachtler, Mesa, AZ; 8 grandchildren & 16 great grandchildren, Matthew Bentz and friend, Christina Warrick and his children, Jacob, Zachary, Emily & Andrew Bentz, Las Vegas, NV; Aimee & Eric Bachmeier and their children Maverick, Isaac, Dominic & Sandra; Casey & Kellie Hochhalter and their children, Sylvie, Raina & Miles, Brainard, MN; Derek Vujnovich & fiance Dee Ericksonmoen, Stacey & Jamie Thompson and their children, Jake, Ethan & Rielynn, Michael Dachtler and Lesley Rohner and his children Gabriel & Evangeleen Dachtler, Rhiannon & Josh Rosen, and Shawn Dachtler, all of Mesa, AZ. ; 2 nieces, Carla Rae Meidinger, Boulder, CO and Denyce Breit, Lafayette, LA Ralph was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter, Sandra, brother Ray, sister-in-law Norma, and nephews Randy & Greg Meidinger.
Visitation will be on Sunday from 12:00 noon to 5:00 pm at the Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home and then a family service at 7:00 pm at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church.
A memorial has been established to the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church and the Jacobson Memorial Hospital Foundation.
