KEMPF, Bernhardt "Ben" (Age 92) Entered into rest on September 27, 2009 at Sullivan Park Care Center in Spokane Valley, WA due to age-related causes. Ben was born on January 25, 1917 ten miles southeast of Ashley, North Dakota to Gottlieb and Lydia (Rothfusz) Kempf. He married Lydia Schaible in 1939. They began their life together in the Yakima Valley until they moved into their home on East Garland Avenue in Spokane in 1952 and lived there for over 51 years. Ben worked at a number of jobs including the Civilian Conservation Corp. and agriculture until he went to work for Kaiser Aluminum and Chemical Corporation Trentwood. Ben retired from Kaiser with the unique distinction of never being late for work during his 27 years of employment with Kaiser. Ben was a member of the German/American Society, the Elks Lodge and Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge. He enjoyed bird hunting, fishing, dancing at Polka Fests around the country and traveling. Ben was preceded in death by his parents and his loving wife of 65 years Lydia Kempf in 2004. Ben is survived by his son Jerry J. Kempf, Sr. (wife Madelyn) of Whitefish, MT; grandson Jerry J. Kempf, Jr. (wife Teri) of Spokane Valley, WA; granddaughter Julie A. Taylor (husband Giles) of Spokane Valley, WA; great-grandsons, Justin and Jeffrey Kempf of Florida; great-granddaughters Lindsey Ellenberger and Mikayla Taylor of Spokane Valley, WA; step-grandsons, Al Rhodes of Panama City, FL, Mike Rhodes (wife Sherri) Forsyth, MT; step-granddaughter Debra Pierson (husband Mike) of Whitefish, MT; brothers Ted Kempf and Rudy Kempf, both of Bismarck, ND; sister Sylvia Brunskill of Champlin, MN; numerous nieces, nephews and step-great-grandchildren. A viewing will be held on Friday, October 2, 2009 from 12 to 5 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 3, 2009 at 1 p.m. at All Saints Lutheran Church (formerly Emmanuel Lutheran), 314 S. Spruce, Spokane, WA. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to American Heart Association or Hospice of Spokane or Ducks Unlimited. www.heritagefunerals.com
