FORMER RESIDENT OF CITY IS DEAD RESULT OF MISHAP
Mrs. Walter W. Watson is Stricken at Her Home Sunday Evening
As an indirect result of injuries she received Saturday evening, April 30, when she was struck by an automobile on the public highway near Unionville, west of Morrison, Mrs. Walter W. Watson, formerly of Dixon, died at her home a mile west of the Whiteside county seat at 6 o'clock Sunday evening; a coroner's jury Monday afternoon deciding her death being due to pulmonary thrombosis, as a result of the accident. She had been a patient at the Jane Lamb hospital in Clinton, Ia., since the accident, when, as she stepped onto the pavement to avoid a mud puddle, while walking home from a school election, she was struck by an auto driven by Verle Burnett of Albany, Whiteside county. At the hospital, to which she was rushed after the mishap, it was found she had sustained a compound fracture of both bones of her right leg below the knee and two broken ribs. Reports from her condition were favorable, and Saturday night she was removed in the Reynolds ambulance to her home. At noon Sunday, Mrs. Watson suffered a sinking spell and her condition was weak during the afternoon. About 6 o'clock she was again stricken and passed away.
Christina Propheter was born Apr. 19, 1873, at Cumberland, Maryland. She moved with her parents to Dixon when about 9 years old. On June 13, 1901, she was united in marriage to Walter W. Watson, moving to a farm three miles west of Morrison. They resided there for about six years, then moved to Unionville, where they have since lived. Mrs. Watson was a member of the Presbyterian church where she was a faithful worker and was esteemed by every one who knew her. Besides the husband, there survive four children: Paul W., who is in the navy aboard the U.S. ship Shawmut, which is supposed to be in New York harbor now; Earl C. of Unionville; Chester, at home, and Mrs. Lloyd Duffey of Dixon. Her mother, Mrs. Margaret Propheter of Dixon, and brother, George of Dixon, and John and Fred of Milwaukee, and sister, Mrs. Carrie Fisher of Milwaukee, also survive.
Funeral services will be held at her home west of Morrison Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock, and at the Presbyterian church in Morrison at 2 o'clock.
