Josephine Weber Hune, 100, of Marietta passed away March 16, 2015 at Glenwood.
She was born Nov. 19, 1914, in Whipple, Ohio, to Dr. and Mrs. John F. Weber.
Growing up in Amesville and Marietta, Ohio, she graduated from Marietta High School and Marietta College. After studying at Ohio University, she returned to teach at Marietta High School until she married Herman B. Hune in 1940. After Herm's death in 1960, Josephine co-owned and served as President of Union Slag Corporation.
While at Marietta College, she joined the Sigma Kappa Sorority and was on the Sorority's Board through 2005. She was active in Eastern Star for 75 years and in Girl's Council of the Betsey Mills Club for many years. Serving as an Ohio Association of Garden Clubs Flower Judge for 28 years, she attended and displayed arrangements in many flower shows. Josephine traveled and studied under Bob Thomas, a nationally known flower arranger, with The American Guild of Flower Arrangers that later became Creative Floral Arrangers of the Americas. She then studied under Myrna Cordray. She belonged to the Vienna Garden Club and the former Hill & Dale Garden Club of Marietta.
As a longtime resident of Williamstown, W.Va., she was an active member of the Williamstown Methodist Church and the Williamstown Women's Club. She enjoyed playing bridge and gardening, but especially enjoyed interesting trips to other countries.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Herm; and her sister, Katharine Weber Mitchell. Josephine is survived by two daughters, Karen (Paul) Farrell of Jacksonville, Fla., and Rita (Louis) Stephan of Williamstown; grandchildren, Louis Stephan IV and Clark Stephan, both of Marietta, Christina (Dave) Anderson of Winston-Salem, and Paul III (Lauren) and Scott (Stephanie) Farrell, both of Jacksonville Beach; three great-grandchildren (Winston-Salem, N.C.); and several nieces and nephews.
