Edward Hecker

Edward Thomas Hecker, 85, of Springfield, has died of cancer.
Born in Dickinson, N.D., to Leonard and Eugenia (Loran) Hecker, he married Elizabeth Schaaf on Oct. 24, 1939, in Bowman, N.D.
He spent his childhood in Dickinson, Hettinger and Reeder, N.D. He played the saxophone and clarinet in a family band. He moved to Oregon in 1939 and to Springfield in 1940.
He worked for Springfield Plywood and Georgia Pacific for 38 years. He retired in 1981 from Georgia Pacific.
He was a wood craftsman, making furniture and building houses. He enjoyed nature, camping, fishing, hunting and traveling with his family. His favorite pastime was working crossword puzzles and raising ring-necked doves, Japanese quail and chukars.
He was a former member of Knights of Columbus and St. Alice Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth; three sons: Marvin Hecker (and his wife, Linda) and Edward Hecker (and his wife, Betsy), all of Springfield, and Marvin Hecker (and his wife, Katie) of Eugene; two daughters: Mary Hilsendager (and her husband, Anthony) of Eugene and Darlene Jacobucci of Canby; three sisters: Tillie Schaaf of Port Orchard, Wash., Catherine Clements of Springfield and Annamarie Kromarek of Belt, Mont; as well as 21 grandchildren, three stepgrandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and four step great-grandchildren.
A daughter, Janice Hecker, died in infancy in 1942.
The funeral mass and recitation of the rosary was held on Tuesday, Dec. 30, at St. Alice Catholic Church. Buell Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
