MOTT — Veronica Kern, 91, Mott, passed away Nov. 12, 2009, at Good Samaritan Nursing Center, Mott, with her family by her side. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. MST Monday, Nov. 16, at St. Vincent's Catholic Church, Mott, with the Rev. Charles Zins officiating. Burial will be in Sunnyslope Cemetery, Mott.
Visiation will be held from 1 to 7 p.m. MST today at the church followed by a rosary/wake at 7 p.m. MST.
Veronica Frank was born Feb. 28, 1918, in Stark County, the daughter of Michael Jr. and Anna Mary (Hecker) Frank. She was raised on a farm south of Dickinson and attended St. Pius Catholic School in Sheffield. She then worked in Dickinson for Dr. Sam Chernesak as a housekeeper.
Veronica married Joe Barth on June 11, 1940. Veronica and Joe ran the Home Cafe in Mott until Joe's death on Aug. 12, 1949. At that time, she moved to Dickinson and worked at Lariat Cafe. Veronica married Fred Kern on May 15, 1951. After raising her family, she worked at Good Samaritan Nursing Center in Mott as a cook for 10 years. Fred died on Nov. 30, 2006. Veronica loved gardening, baking, playing cards and embroidering. Veronica belonged to the Altar Society and was a 50-year member of Catholic Daughters of America.
Veronica is survived by her daughter, Diane Barth (Larry) Messer; her sons, David (Sandra) Kern and Michael (Joletta) Kern; six granddaughters, Susanne (Doug) Fettig, Karla (Carlen) Thorson), Jennifer (Jim) Tracy, Stephanie (Kyle) Schutte, Alysia (Jimmy) Lovgren and Katrice Kern; 10 great-grandchildren, Ashley and Brady Fettig, Brooks and Grace Thorson, Melanie, Tyler, Ryan and Cody Schutte and Brandon and Mariah Tracy; her stepsister, Lena Heiser; and her sisters-in-law, Maggie Barth, Loretta Doll, Dorothy Barth and Francis Barth.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her stepfather, Steve Heiser; her husbands; her brothers, Joe and Nick; her infant brothers, Edward and George; her sisters, Tillie Mack, Mary Weber, Clementine Weiler and Pauline Heiser.
