  [S927] Obituary. OBITUARY Edward Anthony Schaner, 90, Mandan, died January 7, 2017 at Sanford Health Care in Bismarck surrounded by his loving family. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 am on Thursday, January 12, 2017 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mandan, with Rev. Shane Campbell as celebrant. Burial will be at North Dakota Veterans Cemetery with Military Honors provided by Mandan American Legion Post #40 and North Dakota National Guard. Visitation will be held Wednesday, January 11, 2017 from 4:00-8:00 pm at Weigel Funeral Home, with a 6:30 pm Ritual by Mandan Moose Lodge and a Parish Vigil at 7:00 pm. Visitation will continue at the church one hour prior to the service on Thursday. Edward was born October 31, 1926 to Joseph and Katherine (Boehm) Schaner. He attended St. Joseph's School through the 8th grade. He enlisted in the Army during the Korean War. Edward was very proud to have climbed Mt. Fuji twice. Edward married the love of his life, Viola Sibla on May 24, 1954. This past year they celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary. Edward worked many jobs and retired from Cass Clay after 17 years. Edward was a lifetime member of the Bismarck Eagles Club and the Mandan Moose. Edward was known by many for his love of sports. He enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren throughout the years and never missed a game. Edward was loved and cherished by his wife of 62 years, Viola (Sibla) Schaner; his 13 children, Prescott (Carolle) Schaner, Michele (Keith) Larson, Sandra Schaner, Curtis (Lane) Schaner, Dawn (Eric) Svensson, Joseph (Marie) Schaner, Sharon (Eddie) Pratt Jr., Colette (Thomas) Goldade, Clyde (Kimberly) Schaner, Robert (Angie) Schaner, Patrick (Francisco) Schaner, John (Carrie) Schaner, James (Jennifer) Schaner; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law Ellie Schaner. Edward was preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Katherine, brother Alex, sisters Margaret Schaner and Alice (Don) Palenberg; son-in-law Eddie Pratt Jr.; grandsons Michael Schaner and Thomas Goldade; and sister-in-law Lillian Schaner. Memorials are preferred.
