OBITUARY
Edward Doll, 98, Hannover, passed away February 17, 2017 at his residence in Hannover, ND.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, February 20, 2017 at St. Martin's Catholic Church, Center, ND with Fr. Selva Periannan as celebrant. Burial will be at St. Martin's Cemetery, Center, ND.
Visitation will be held Sunday, February 19, 2017 from 2:00-5:00 pm at St. Mary's Church, Bismarck, with Knights of Columbus Rosary/Parish Vigil at 3:00 pm. Visitation will continue at the church one hour prior to the service on Monday.
Edward was born on the farm, of his parents, Clemens and Rose Keller-Doll, in rural Almont, ND on August 25, 1918. Edward's parents were immigrants from south Russia and Edward was the second youngest boy of eight living children, one sibling died at age fifteen months. Edward attended a country school about one mile from his home, attending grades one through eight. Edward worked on the family farm until about 1948-1950 when he lived homeless, in Morton County, seeking work as a farmhand.
Edward met his bride, Leona Huck, and was married June 19, 1950 at St. Martin's Catholic Church in Center, ND. They began their life together on an empty farmstead near Otter Creek. As a young husband, Edward worked as a carpenter and a farmer in Oliver County. Edward and Leona became parents, in the late fifties, of two sons, Robert Clemens Doll and Gregory Jerome Doll, and relocated to another farmstead about four miles southwest of Hannover, ND. Their daughter, Virginia Jane Doll, joined the family in 1961. Edward devoted his life to parenting and again became a dad in 1977 when he fostered Kennen, Damon, and Aaron Huck. Edward moved his family, for the last time, around 1980, to his farmstead five miles west of Hannover, where he lived to the end of his days. From about 1959-2013 Edward and Leona raised cattle and sheep and small grain farming. Edward was also employed at the Oliver County Courthouse from 1977-1999, when he retired. In his retirement years Edward was conscientious about ecology and spent his years from 1999 to his death, planting trees to preserve the environment. Edward used to say that what the earth gave him he wanted to give something back.
Edward was an active member in his Catholic religion from an early age, as a young man, and into his thirties, joining the Knights of Columbus serving as a 3rd degree Knight, 4th degree Knight, and twice as a Grand Knight, as well as other duties that were asked of him.
Edward had a philosophy to work hard, preserve the land, be honest to his debts, to his country, and to love and serve God, with loving and serving God foremost and always first. Edward demonstrated courage, honesty, and dedication in all that he did. To know him, learn from him, and to love him was a joy and an honor that will not soon be forgotten.
Edward will be deeply missed by his wife, Leona Doll, Hannover; sister-in-law, Venita Doll; sons, Robert C. Doll, Hannover, Kennen Huck (Diane), Bismarck, Damon Huck, Bismarck, Aaron Huck (Alysia), Minot; daughter, Virginia J. Doll-Decoteau (Allen), Bismarck; daughter-in-law, Emma Doll, Mandan; grandchildren, Ryan Doll, Willow Doll, Holly Doll, Austin, Tessa, Rachel, Matthew, Landon, Katarina, Kristofer, Ayla Huck, and Aacen Huck.
Edward was preceded in death by his parents, Clemens and Rose-Keller Doll; son, Greg Jerome Doll; brothers, Nick C. Doll (Barbara), George Doll, Steven Doll; sisters, Albertina Hertz (Gus), Monica Weinberger (Adam), Anna Hopfauf (Stanley), Katie Reisenauer (John), Johnny Miller, Mary Fitterer (Tony).
