- OBITUARY: PUBLISHED ON February 8, 2006 Section: Obituaries Markus R. Berger Langevin-Mussetter Funeral Home YAKIMA - Markus R. Berger, 89, of Yakima, passed away Saturday, February 4, 2006, at the Renaissance Care Center, where his oldest granddaughter is the administrator and his great granddaughter was one of his favorite care providers.Markus was born January 2, 1917, in Napoleon, North Dakota, to John and Frances (Beehler) Berger. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. On January 12, 1937, he married Regina Schneider at Fort Yates, ND. They just celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary.In his early working career, Markus was a member of the CCC, (Civil Conservation Corps). He worked many years as a carpenter in construction, working on the Wanapum Dam, Grand Coulee Dam, the Evergreen Floating Bridge in Seattle and many other sites throughout Washington. Markus worked twenty years and retired from the Hanford Reservation in 1979. He volunteered and worked fifteen years for the St. Vincent de Paul Store in Union Gap.Markus especially loved and enjoyed being with his family and grandchildren. He was an active member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, member of the Knights of Columbus for over 50 years, Fraternal Order of the Eagles for 60 years, the Holy Names Society for over 25 years, and a lifetime member of the V.F.W.He will be deeply missed by all his many friends and family.Survivors include his loving wife, Regina Berger of Yakima, his children and their spouses: Ralph & Lois Berger of Selah, Dorothy Pratt, Ronald Berger, Duane & Carol Berger, and Karen & Larry Miller, all of Yakima; 18 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, a brother, Peter and wife Ann Berger of Mandan, ND, sisters, Josephine & Don Riplinger of Bismarck, ND, Veronica Berger of Mandan, ND and Angeline & Amil Ternis of Milton, WA.He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and three sisters.Viewing will be Wednesday, 12 noon until 8:00 p.m. and Thursday, 12 noon until 4:00 p.m. at Langevin-Mussetter Funeral Home.Vigil service will be Thursday, February 9, 2006 at 6:30 p.m. at Holy Redeemer Church. Mass of Christian Burial is Friday, February 10, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Redeemer Church.
