Fern Emogene Hanner was born January 21, 1922, on her family farm near Holly Springs, Iowa. She was the oldest daughter of Henry and Katheryn” Katie” (Sattel) Hanner, Jr. She attended school in Holly Springs, graduating from high school in 1940.
She was united in marriage to Wayne Holzman on February 25, 1941, at the First Methodist Church in Sioux City, Iowa. In early years they farmed in the Smithland and Sloan, Iowa, area. In 1949 they moved to Kingsley, Iowa, and continued to farm. Wayne passed away February 15, 1980.
Fern was a homemaker and helped Wayne on the farm. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, gardening, and flowers. Fern’s greatest joy was her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and all the life events she was able to share with them throughout their lives.
Fern was a member of the United Methodist Church for over 60 years, the United Methodist Women, and a former member of Garfield Chapter #171 Order of Eastern Star of Kingsley.
She will lovingly be remembered by her daughters, Cathe (and Vince) Feddersen of Sioux City and Julie (and Ken) Jasperson of Kingsley; two grandchildren, Jason (and Tonya) Jasperson of Kingsley and Melissa (and Jeremy) Brown of Sioux City; four great-grandchildren, Carter Jasperson, Carson Jasperson, Jack Brown, and Henry Brown; a sister, Berna Dene Wenberg of Sioux City; a sister-in-law, Barbara Kincaid of Lakewood, CO; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Wayne; a daughter, Connie; brothers-in-law, Harold Wenberg and Harold Kincaid; and a nephew, Steve Wenberg.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Hospice of Siouxland and Fern’s nurse Mary for all the wonderful care provided.
