Hanes, 89, of Third Street, Lowell, died at 4:20 p.m. Friday (Aug. 25, 2006) at her residence. She was born July 4, 1917, in Lowell, to August A. and Carrie Marie Stegner Schwartz. Evelyn was a member of Lowell American Legion Auxiliary, Unit 750, life member of V.F.W. Auxiliary, Alpha Lota International Business Sorority, O.C.C.L. and St. John's Evangelical Church. She had been a Girl Scout leader. She is survived by her husband Robert Lyle Hanes, whom she married on March 24, 1942; a son, David Hanes (friend, Brenda) of Lowell and a daughter, Ellen Biehl (Ernest) of Lowell; three grandchildren, Eric and Carrie Biehl, and Elizabeth Anne Hanes; and a great-grandson, Logan Matthew Hanes. She was preceded in death by two grandsons, Christopher Todd Biehl and Matthew David Hanes; a brother, Bernard Schwartz; and a sister, Vivian Schwartz. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Lowell Chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home, with Pastor James Fernihough officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday. Donations may be made to the L. A. Fire & Rescue Squad, P.O.
