John D. Ketterling, 88, LaMoure, N.D., died Saturday, Feb. 1, 2003, at St. Rose Care Center, LaMoure.
Mr. Ketterling was born Nov. 7, 1914, south of Fredonia, N.D., the son of Daboldt and Elizabeth (Gall) Ketterling. He grew up and attended school. In 1934 the family moved to a farm north of LaMoure. He served in the Civilian Conservation Corps in California and Minnesota. In 1942 he entered the U.S. Army and served during World War II. He was stationed in Germany and France. He received the Purple Heart after being wounded in Germany. He was honorably discharged in 1945. He returned to LaMoure, where he farmed with his father and later with his brother, Henry until retiring in 1976. He entered St. Rose Care Center, LaMoure, in December 2002. He enjoyed wintering in Arizona, with his parents. He enjoyed wild boar hunt and shooting trap.
He is survived by eight brothers, Henry and Harry (Esther), both LaMoure, Louie (Olga), Ellendale, N.D., Lawrence, LaMoure, and Daboldt (Velda), and Albert (Esther), both Jamestown, Alvin, Mesa, Ariz., and Palmer, Red Wing, Minn.; four sisters, Edna (James) McLeod, Nanjemoy, Md., Ella Begleu, Jamestown, DeLoris Anderson, Marion, N.D., and Marceal (Ivan) Nannenga, Mesa, Ariz.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.
Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Church of the Nazarene, LaMoure, with the Rev. Scott Henry officiating. Military rites by Townsend-Good-Shockman Post #19.
Prayer service: 7:30 p.m. today at the church.
Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. today at the church.
Burial: Rosehill Cemetery at a later date.
