Obituary for Miriam Elaine (Burget) Retkofsky
Miriam Elaine (Burget) Retkofsky of 10225 Old Audrey Kell Road, Charlotte, NC died at Legacy Heights Senior Living Community on June 23, 2015 from complications from Alzheimer’s disease. Miriam was born in 1936 in Blair County, PA to Lois M. Replogle and Charles D. Burget. She married W. Wayne Retkofsky on October 27, 1956 at the Friendship Church of the Brethren in Linthicum Heights, MD by Rev. Edward Wenger. Miriam graduated from Glen Burnie High School in Glen Burnie, MD, class of 1954. She then attended Walter’s Academy of Modeling in 1955, and then Secretary School in 1957 in Baltimore. When her children attended high school she then went to Delaware County Community College, PA and graduated in 1981 with her associate’s degree.
Miriam worked at the Baltimore Gas and Electric, was Secretary to The Admission Office at Bridgewater College, VA, while her husband attended school, then the American Red Cross as a secretary and branch manager after her husband retired from DuPont. Miriam was Vice President/Secretary/Treasurer of the family corporation. Miriam served many years as deaconess emeritus and choir member at the Drexel Hill Church of the Brethren. She and her husband also lived in Baltimore, MD, Bridgewater, VA, Media, PA, and after retiring they lived in Apopka, FL, and attended the First Baptist Church in Longwood, FL, where she sang in the choir from 2001 to 2013. Miriam enjoyed traveling, platform tennis and board games with grandchildren, and friends and neighbors.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years, W. Wayne Retkofsky and two children: David W. Retkofsky of Sellersville, PA and Lisa E. Guacci and husband Michael L. Guacci of Charlotte, NC Miriam has four grandchildren: Brittany J. Retkofsky, of Miami, FL, Laura M. Guacci and Cara M. Guacci of Charlotte, NC, and Colton J. Hunter of Sellerswville, PA. She is also survived with four siblings: K. Wayne Muntain of New Enterprise, PA, Rev. Karen S. Dize of Queenstown, MD, Mary Beth Gardner of Centerville, MD, and Kathy D. Bahus of Severn, MD. Miriam was predeased by her parents: Lois M. (Burget) Muntain and Charles D. Burget, stepfather Charles T. Muntain and a brother Michael T. Muntain.
The family will gather at 9 AM on Tuesday, June 30, 2015 at Heritage Funeral Home – Ballantyne Chapel, 16151 Lancaster Highway, Charlotte, NC 28277. A graveside service will be held at Salisbury National Cemetery, Government Rd., Salisbury, NC at 12 PM.
