Rose E. Weiler, 92, Dickinson, died Thursday, February 23, 2012 at St. Benedict's Health Center, Dickinson. Rose's Mass of Christian will be at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, February 25, 2012 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Dickinson, with Fr. Todd Kreitinger as the celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery, Dickinson. Visitation will be from 1:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., Friday at Ladbury Funeral Service, with a rosary & vigil at 7 p.m., with Deacon Ron Keller presiding.
Rose E. Stroh was born February 18, 1920 in Dunn County, near Manning, the daughter of Jack K. and Magdelena (Schwindt) Stroh. She was raised and educated near Manning, and had worked at St. Joseph's Hospital for a period of time.
Rose married Valentine Weiler on November 24, 1941 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Dickinson. They farmed for five years and then lived in Manning where they owned and operated a grocery store for five years. The Weiler's moved to Dickinson in 1950 where she worked at Lynch's Grocery until 1958. They family then moved to Mott where they owned and operated a grocery store from 1958 to 1967. Valentine and Rose moved to Dickinson in 1968 and she began working at J.C. Penney, retiring in 1987.
She belonged to St. Pius Verein, the German/Hungarian and the St. Anthony Club. She enjoyed Embroidery, needle work, cooking, playing cards, gardening, visiting and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Rose is survived by three children, Ervan (Elaine) Weiler, St. George, Utah, Betty (Loran) Hatchard, Minot, and Cliff (Rosie) Weiler, Gladstone; 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; 2 great, great-grandchildren; four siblings, Gary (Joyce) Stroh, Albany, Ore., Harry (Clem) Stroh, Dickinson, Caroline (Frank) Kuntz, Dickinson, and Regina (Simon) Wanner, Mandan; and one sister-in-law, Marge Stroh, Portland, Ore. She was preceded in death by her husband, Valentine, on August 17, 2009; her parents; one daughter and son-in-law, Elaine and Bob Ross; six brothers; one infant brother; and three sisters.
