Valentine Weiler

Valentine Weiler, 91, Dickinson, died Monday, August 17, 2009 at St. Joseph’s Hospital & Health Center, Dickinson. Valentine’s Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m., Thursday, August 20, 2009 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church with Fr. Todd Kreitinger as the celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Dickinson. Visitation will be from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m., Wednesday at Ladbury Funeral Service with a rosary & vigil at 7 p.m. with Deacon Ron Keller presiding.
Valentine was born February 4, 1918 at Schefield the son of George and Genevieve (Hirsch) Weiler. He was raised and educated in the Schefield area and farmed for a period of time.
Valentine married Rose E. Stroh on November 24, 1941 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Dickinson. They farmed for five years and then lived in Manning where they owned and operated a grocery store for five years. They moved to Dickinson in in 1950 where he worked at Lynch’s Grocery until 1958. The family moved to Mott where they owned and operated a grocery store from 1958 to 1967. Valentine and Rose moved to Dickinson in 1968 and he worked for Dinsdale Texaco until 1988 at which time he retired.
Valentine belonged to the St. Pius Verein, German-Hungarian and the St. Anthony Club. He enjoyed playing golf, cards, shooting pool, and especially spending time with the grandkids and visiting.
Valentine is survived by his wife, Rose; their three children, Ervan (Elaine) Weiler, St. George, Utah, Betty (Loran) Hatchard, Minot, and Cliff (Rosie) Weiler, Gladstone; 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one great, great-grandchild; two sisters, Magdalen Wandler, Hettinger and Sally Slater, Hettinger; and three sisters-in-law, Caroline Weiler, Bowman, Barbara Weiler and Clementine Weiler, Dickinson. He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Elaine, six brothers, and one sister.
