Erwin Ketterling
The funeral for Erwin Ketterling, of Marion, ND, will be Saturday, December 27, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at the United Methodist Church, Marion, ND, with Reverend Rodney Ulmer officiating. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. also at the church. Burial will be at Emmanuel Cemetery near Marion.
Erwin Ketterling, son of Peter and Lydia (Just) Ketterling was born on November 15, 1921 in Wishek, North Dakota. He attended school in Wishek and Grand Rapids, North Dakota, before continuing his education at Northwest Nazarene College in Nampa, Idaho. He was united in marriage to Marillyn Korn on October 25, 1945 at the Evangelical United Brethren Church in Marion, North Dakota. Erwin spent much of his life successfully farming with his wife. In 1978, he began to work fulltime for the Department of Federal Crop Insurance, and continued this for 15 years.
Erwin enjoyed traveling with his wife and family. He was very involved in community activities including the United Methodist Church, 4-H Leadership, a school board member, and several others.
Erwin passed away on Wednesday, December 24, 2008, at the St. Rose Care Center, LaMoure, North Dakota, under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley. He was 87 years old.
He is survived by his wife, Marillyn; three children, Karen (Wayne) Lundgaard, Ellsworth, WI, Kerry (Paula) Ketterling, Marion, ND, and Brenda (Joe) Reich, Oakes, ND; seven grandchildren, Nicole (Tim) Harris, Leah Lundgaard, Casey (Jackie) Ketterling, Karl Ketterling, Alecia Reich, Barton Reich, and Mallory Reich; a great-grandson, James Erwin Ketterling, five brothers, Ben Ketterling, Willmar, MN, Herbert (Shirley) Ketterling, Greeley, CO, Elmer (Ruby) Ketterling, Leola, SD Wilbert Ketterling, Wheaton, MN, and Raymond Ketterling of Montana; five sisters, Esther (Kenneth) Haugen, Verona, ND, Irene (Gilbert) Hildahl and Katherine (Allen) Hodem all of LaMoure, Norma (Bill) Kale, Aberdeen, SD, and Sara (Bill) Peterson, Arvada, CO; and several nieces and nephews. Erwin was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Oscar, Albert and John and two sisters, Lenore Hyle and Ellen Nelson.
