Leo V. Kuntz

Leo V. Kuntz, 86, Dickinson, passed away peacefully in his home, Monday, November 11, 2013 with his family by his side. Leo’s Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, November 16, 2013 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Dickinson, with Fr. Todd Kreitinger as the celebrant. Interment will take place at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan. Military honors will be provided by the Dickinson Honors Team following the Mass. Visitation will be on Friday from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m., at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson and will continue at the church on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. There will be a rosary & vigil at 7 p.m., Friday with Deacon Ryan Nelson presiding, at Ladbury Funeral Service.
Leo was born on May 29, 1927 in Dickinson, the son of Gregor and Monica (Reichert) Kuntz. He honorably served in the United States Army from March 25, 1946 to September 26, 1947. On February 9, 1948 Leo married Beatrice “Betty” Schwindt. In 1972 Leo and Betty purchased the family homestead three miles west of Dickinson, where they lived until 2012 before moving into Dickinson. Besides ranching Leo worked for Bankers Life and Casualty for 40 plus years. Leo enjoyed playing cards, ranching and spending time with his family.
Leo is survived by his wife, Betty; two children: David (Kathy) Kuntz, Bradenton, Fla.; and Doreen (Jim) Steckler, Dickinson; six grandchildren: David Kuntz, Minneapolis, Minn.; Ben (Megan) Kuntz, Prairie Ridge, Kan.; Lucas Kuntz, Aurora, Colo.; Josh Steckler, Dickinson; Nicole (Chris) Green, Grand Rapids, Mich.; and Brandon Steckler, Bismarck; two great-grandchildren: London and Penelope Kuntz, Prairie Ridge, Kan.; brothers: George Kuntz, Dickinson; and Pete (Mary) Kuntz, New Rockford; sister: Christine Frenzel, Glendive, Mont.; sister-in-law: Caroline Kuntz, Dickinson; and many nieces and nephews.
Leo was preceded in death by his parents and step-father, Joseph Jaeger; his brothers and spouses: John (Monica) Kuntz, Jack (Mary) Kuntz, Frank Kuntz; his sisters and spouses: Rose (Frank) Schwindt; Betty (Harry) Heidt; Pauline (Tony) Decker; brother-in-law: Fred Frenzel; and sister-in-law: Gladys Kuntz.
