George passed away Sunday, November 13, 2016 at St. Benedict’s Health Center surrounded by his family.
George was born August 7, 1932 in Dickinson, the son of Gregor and Monica (Reichert) Kuntz. He grew up one mile west of Dickinson on the family farm. He first attended country school and later St. Joseph’s Catholic School. George married Gladys Kaufman on February 10, 1953 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Richardton. The couple made their home and raised their family in Dickinson. George started working in the auto body repair business at an early age. He worked for over 50 years at Walt’s Body Shop/Legend Auto Body. George was actively involved in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. He was a member of St. Pius Verein, the Elks Lodge, and a member of the German Hungarian Club, in which he served on the board of directors for many years. George was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt, fish, camp, and spend numerous hours in his garden, which was his pride and joy. George’s family was his life and he had a special relationship with each child and grandchild. He looked forward to sharing his love of the outdoors with them. We will miss his abundant stories and the many moments together.
George is survived by his sons, Keith (Melissa) of Laurel, MT, Curt (Sue), Allan (Toni Louise), Alvin (Janel), Bryan (Julie) and Brett Garecht, all of Dickinson; daughters, Debra Privratsky (Gordon Kostelecky) and Shelly (Daniel) Nameniuk, both of Dickinson; 20 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren; brother, Peter (Mary) Kuntz of New Rockford; sister, Christine Frenzel of Glendive, MT; sisters-in-law, Betty Kuntz and Caroline Kuntz of Dickinson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Gregor and Monica; wife, Gladys (1998); brothers, Leo, John, Jack and Frank Kuntz; sisters, Rose Schwindt, Betty Heidt, Pauline Decker.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to St. Joseph’s Catholic Church Pine Room Renovation.
