Birth: Sep. 25, 1897 Saint Louis St. Louis City Missouri, USA Death: Apr. 20, 1963 Mozier Calhoun County Illinois, USA Obituary from the Edwardsville Intelligencer, Edwardsville, Madison County, Illinois, Monday, April 22, 1963, page 2: Funeral services for Eugene Herman Schmidt, owner of Schmidt's Tin Shop, will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. from the Lesley Marks funeral home with interment in Calvary cemetery. Mr. Schmidt, 65, who resided at 1119 West High St., died at 8:45 a.m. Saturday while on a fishing trip in Mozier, Ill. A 25-year member of the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge No. 1561, Mr. Schmidt had served as Pilgrim Governor in the Moose, the highest degree in that organization. He had served one year, as vice president of District 10, Loyal Order of the Moose, and as deputy supreme governor of the District. He was a past governor of the local Moose Lodge. He was recently recognized by the Lodge for assisting 75 new members into the organization during his 25-year membership. Mr. Schmidt was a past president of the Chamber of Commerce, Edwardsville Kiwanis club and the Sheet Metal Contractors Association of Illinois. Survivors include his wife, the former Emma Kessman of Carpenter whom he married Nov. 23, 1918, a son and daughter, Clifford E. Schmidt and Mrs. Vincent (Emogene) Beck, both of this city, three brothers and two sisters, Louis of Highland, Ind., Wilbur of Hammond, Ind., Aloysius and Mrs. Margaret Calahan of Wood River and Mrs. Evelyn Burris, Tuscola, Ill. Four grandchildren survive. He was born Sept. 25, 1897 in St. Louis, Mo., a son of the late Louis and Bertha Schmitt Schmidt. Preceding him in death were two daughters in infancy, two brothers and a sister. Friends may call at the Marks funeral home until the rites Tuesday. The Rev. Louis Elbow, pastor of St. Mary's Catholic church, will officiate. A Moose memorial service will be conducted this evening at 8 at the funeral home.
