Birth: Jan. 4, 1860 Edwardsville Madison County Illinois, USA Death: Jun. 19, 1938 Edwardsville Madison County Illinois, USA Obituary from the Edwardsville Intelligencer, Edwardsville, Madison County, Illinois, Monday, June 20, 1938, page 2: Louis Henry Schmidt, 701 Henry Street, this city, 78 years of age, died at his home Sunday afternoon at 2:15 o'clock. Death was due to complications. Mr. Schmidt was born on a farm on Bluff Road on January 4, 1860 and had attained the age of 78 years, 5 months and 15 days. He married Miss Bertha Schmitt here many years ago. Ten children were born to them. His wife died on August 11, 1936 and one child died in infancy. Mr. Schmidt was affiliated with the Eden Evangelical Church. He worked at N.O. Nelson Company until about 10 years ago, when he retired. Nine children survive. They are Walter, Eugene H., Raymond and Aloysius Schmidt and Mrs. Gladys Kessman, all of Edwardsville, Mrs. Margaret Callahan of Wood River, Louis T. Schmidt of Hammond, Ind., Wilbur J. Schmidt of Alton and Mrs. Evelyn Burris of Roscommon, Mich. A half-sister, Mrs. Louise Howe of Peoria and a half-brother, William H. Schwartz of Edwardsville also survive as do 23 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Two brothers preceded him in death. The funeral will be held on Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock from the Marks-Weber Funeral Home and at 2 o'clock at the Eden Evangelical Church. Rev. H.J. Bredehoeft will officiate. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery. Pallbearers were George Merkle, John Hess, August Schlechte, John Steiner, Fred Voelker and William Blixen.
