Gerald Eissinger, Medina, ND, passed away at the age of 77 on July 11, 2014 at Elim Care Center in Fargo, ND. He was surrounded by family and passed quietly after nearly a two year fight with cancer.
Jerry was born at Jamestown Hospital on February 2, 1937, to Adolph and Barbara (Moser) Eissinger. He came home the last four miles by horse and sleigh. He grew up on his family's farm and loved farming and all that went with it. He graduated from Medina High School in 1955. He attended NDSU for four years. He was a member of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity.
He joined the National Guard in the fall of 1959 and completed basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. He married Sandra (Keiser) Eissinger on May 6, 1960; they were married for 54 years. They were blessed with seven children; Paul (Deb) Eissinger, Jamestown, ND; Timothy (Becky) Eissinger, Fargo, ND; Thomas (Jodi) Eissinger, Fargo, ND; Tracy (Javier) Enriquez, St. Paul, MN; Terrence (Karla) Eissinger, Fargo, ND; Tamara (Reed) Hofmann, West Fargo, ND; and Tyler (Brandi) Eissinger, Medina, ND. They were also blessed with 19 grandchildren, one great-grandchild and a special adopted grandchild, Katie Schmidt.
Jerry was a member of the United Church of Christ all his life. He was also a member of the Medina Lions Club and served on many boards including Medina Farmer's Union Oil, Medina Elevator, Clerk/Treasurer for Flint Township, Stutsman County Farmer's Union, North Dakota Telephone Company, Devils Lake, ND; and helped organize the DCN. He took much pride in his 33 years of the Dakota Central Telephone Board. Jerry enjoyed meeting so many telephone people around the state and working with and learning from them. He loved his family and was very proud of all the accomplishments of his children and grandchildren. Family gatherings were always special and great fun.
Gerry loved to play golf and was fortunate to play on many beautiful courses all over the U.S. His learning to play golf caused a few cracks in some windows in the farm house. Jerry also remained active running and biking. He loved the game of basketball and was often referred to by Sam Lowe (a sports reporter for Jamestown Sun) as Medina Flash. Jerry and Sandi had the opportunity to travel to many wonderful places all over the U.S. Their most favorite was Alaska and always said they would love to go back and visit again.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents Adolph and Barbara; his sisters Agnes Dammel, Arlene Whitmer, and Vivian Gaustad; a nephew, Kirk Gaustad and also many Aunts, Uncles and Cousins.
Memorial preferred to Dakota Central Telecommunications Scholarship Fund in memory of Jerry.
