Melvin Remmick, 78, Bismarck, died Nov. 24, 2011, at St. Gabriel’s Community, Bismarck. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 28, at Century Baptist Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Alan Steier and the Rev. Paul Herr officiating. Burial will be at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan.
An evening prayer service will begin at 7 p.m. Sunday at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck, with visitation following until 8 p.m.
Mel was born March 26, 1933, at Streeter, the son of John and Sophie (Wetzel) Remmick. He grew up and attended school in Glen Ullin. He served in the U.S. Army from April 1952 to April 1954. He was stationed with the 44th infantry division in the state of Washington. On Sept. 13, 1953, he married Delores Kessler in Glen Ullin. Following his time in the service he worked and lived in Ft. Pierre, S.D., where he worked on the construction of the Oahe Dam. Mel attended the North Dakota State College of Science in Wahpeton, where he graduated with an auto mechanic degree in 1960. Mel and his family moved to Bismarck in 1960, where he farmed and was an auto mechanic for Chevrolet. Following his retirement from Chevrolet in 1989, Mel and Delores continued to farm northeast of Bismarck, and he continued to work in his shop.
Mel had a love of the land and a gift for fixing and mechanically improving things. He was a member of Century Baptist Church where he served as an usher. He is blessed to have shared his love and life with his wife, Delores, for 58 years.
Mel is survived by his wife, Delores, Bismarck; his children, Lorin (Anna Mae), Underwood, Minn., Denise (Michael Morrell), Bismarck, and Laura (Dave) Glatt, Bismarck; his grandchildren, Shyla (Ben) Muse, Blake Remmick, Derek Remmick, Dillon (Angela) Remmick, Wes (Erika) Ussery, Brennen Morrell, and Tanner, Miranda and Kelsey Glatt; his great-grandchildren, Taylor and Ryan Ussery and Kyleigh and Alexa Muse; his sister, Betty Day, Moffit; and his brothers, Lester Remmick, Mandan, and Eugene Remmick, Milwaukee, Wis.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Sophie Remmick; and his brother, Roger Remmick.
